Household Hazardous Waste collection event in Dorset this weekend

There will be a Household Hazardous Waste collection event at the Dorset Transfer Station at 1087 Maple Ridge Drive this Saturday, September 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. Another HHW event will follow at the Maple Lake Waste Disposal Site on Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be the final collection event in Algonquin Highlands for the year. 

Residents will need to produce their landfill user ID card (bright pink) to show the site attendant in order to access the event. Please note that containers with hazardous waste in them will not be returned. So, for example, if you bring a can of gas, you can't empty out the gas and take the can home with you.

Materials accepted:

• Aerosol cans full or partially full
• Automotive batteries
• Automotive fluids
• Paints and stains (full or partially full cans)
• Finishing products (varnish, glue, etc.)
• Propane cylinders (non-refillable)
• Antifreeze
• Used motor oil and oil filters
• Cleaners (e.g. bleach, oven cleaner)
• Solvents (e.g. Varsol, paint thinner, etc.)
• Pesticides, fungicides, herbicides
• Fertilizers
• Pool and hot tub chemicals
• Corrosive materials
• Flammable materials
• Toxic materials
• Reactive materials

Not accepted:

• Needles and other sharps
• PCBs
• Biohazardous material
• Radioactive materials
