Ice Storm Update - March 31

Following the weekend's ice storm which has severely impacted much of Haliburton County, including the Township of Algonquin Highlands, clean-up efforts continue throughout the municipality. AH Public Works Staff continue to work diligently to keep roads as clear and safe as possible. 

While some Township facilities are open with reduced services, others remain closed to the public. As of Monday, March 31, the Township continues to experience difficulties with telephone and internet services. Please subscribe to Service Disruption under News & Notices on the Algonquin Highlands website to keep apprised of delays and closures. Notices will be sent directly to your email inbox. 

Waste Disposal Sites 

The Township will be re-opening waste disposal sites as it becomes safe to do so in coming days. Waste disposal site updates are published daily through the Algonquin Highlands website as this Significant Weather Event continues to unfold. Subscribe to News & Notices.

Dorset Recreation Centre

As of Monday, March 31, the Dorset Recreation Centre had re-opened, with some reduced services and payment options. Updates on the DRC can be found on the Algonquin Highlands website, or by following the Dorset Recreation Centre on Facebook. 

Frost Centre Ski Trails

The Frost Centre Ski Trails remain CLOSED amid the inclement weather. 

Administrative Office

The Algonquin Highlands Administrative Office is open during its regular hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Please note that as of Monday, March 31, the Administrative Office was experiencing disruption to telephone and internet services.

Hydro One

Hydro One crews continue to work alongside contractors to restore power in affected areas. Stay clear of any downed power lines with a minimum distance of 10 metres. Report downed lines to Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235. View the Hydro One outage map

Safety Tips 

  • Use flashlights or LED lights instead of candles to reduce the risk of fire
  • DO NOT use barbecues, propane heaters or generators indoors
  • Unplug electric vehicles to avoid surges or damage
  • Ensure sump pumps and drains are kept clear to prevent basement flooding
